Gregory Thornton and his girlfriend eluded cops in this vehicle

Date: April 22, 2023

The suspect in death of a 13-year-old Augusta boy eluded officers in Baltimore after fleeing to the northern city.

Gregory Louis Thornton, 30, and an unidentified female, are both being sought in connection with the March 28 killing of Buddy Brown Jr.

The victim was fatally shot at least one time at Richmond Summit Apartments where he was staying on Broad Street. He had gone outside to pick up a DoorDash delivery and never made it back inside.

According to a Baltimore TV station, investigators tied Thornton and the female to the killing and then got a tip that they fled Georgia to Harford County, Md. On Tuesday, federal marshals surrounded an apartment in Edgewood, Md., where investigators believe Thornton had been hiding.

As agents moved in, Thornton pulled up in a black Camaro with racing stripes, but he took off after seeing cops, and they stopped the chase when it became too dangerous, WBFF-TV reported.

The U.S. Marshals Service released pictures of the car describing it as a black 2013 Chevy Camaro with white racing stripes, and a temporary MD tag reading ‘T1230568’. Authorities say Thornton is believed to be armed and dangerous and capable of great violence.

Meanwhile, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office released a wanted poster for Thornton on Saturday and declined to comment on the identity of the female suspect.

The victim was found at 3:07 a.m. March 28 when deputies responded to gunshots in downtown Augusta. His parents gave a heart-wrenching interview to WRDW-TV and announced a $1,000 reward for information leading to the killer.

Buddy Brown Jr., 13

The victim was a seventh-grader at Hornsby Middle School.  He was staying at Richmond Summit with his father with reports that he was helping to care for him.

Buddy told his father that he was ordering food from McDonald’s and was going to go downstairs to get it between 12:30 a.m. – 1 a.m. Tuesday. His father fell asleep and woke up to a call that his son was found dead downstairs, just outside the front entrance along the 700 block of Broad Street.

“He told me that my son was laying down there dead, and I throw my phone down and ran down there and my son was laying there dead,” the dad told WRDW-TV.
