Augusta celebrates the Fourth of July with many events

In preparation for celebrating Independence Day, Augusta is kicking off the festivities all throughout the week complete with concerts, firework displays, live music and enjoyable fun for the entire family.

On June 30, from 6 to 11 p.m., Fort Gordon will be hosting a one-day jubilee on the base’s Barton Field. Completely open to the public and free of charge, this event will feature a carnival, shopping, live entertainment and much more. Live entertainment from Vertical Horizon starting at 6:45 p.m. followed by Bowling For Soup who will begin at 8:15 p.m. To close the day out, spectators are invited to join together at 9:45 p.m. to witness one of the CSRA’s best firework displays.

For July 1, starting at 7 p.m., the Thomson-McDuffie Government complex is inviting families to enjoy an outdoor picnic on the lawn, and indulge in delicious foods, games, bounce houses and spectacular fireworks to finish off the night. As a special treat, the Thomson-McDuffie Fire Department will have a firetruck on site to spray water for children who wish to run through and relieve themselves of the hot weather. The complex is located at 210 Railroad St. in Thomson, Ga.

The Hephzibah Agricultural Center, located at 4245 Peach Orchard Rd, will also be hosting their first annual fireworks display on July 1. However, prior to fireworks at 9:30 p.m., the event will showcase a concert featuring a Zac Brown tribute band at 7 p.m. Tickets can be bought online at https://www.freshtix.com/events/20-ride-zbb?fbclid=IwAR1DuPYfjkSb0xUixNyUiSBQlQc3ZxBjHj2aSUKukEaMFquAWg3D8C-u1Hw or at the nearby CIty Hall. 

On July 3, at 465 Burke Veterans Parkway, Mad Anthony’s Fireworks Show will begin at 6 p.m. on the outskirts of Waynesboro. Families are invited to bring a chair or tailgate from their car to enjoy the fireworks, vendors, concession, yard games and inflatables.

A local favorite by many, Living History Park will transport visitors back in time for free to celebrate the country’s birth. Stationed at North Augusta’s 299 W. Spring Grove, the free celebration will also feature dogs, watermelon and water. Open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., attendees are encouraged to come dressed in white, red and blue and explore the park as they see fit.

In the Evans Towne Center, at 5 to 11 p.m., live music, food trucks and fireworks all ensure the perfect mixture for a good time to celebrate Independence Day.

Within downtown’s Augusta Commons, at 836 Reynolds St., all citizens and guests are encouraged to enjoy themselves, as well as the event’s live music, vendors and food trucks while waiting on the Augusta Riverwalk’s top levee for fireworks to begin at 9:15 p.m.

Whether one is spectacing from afar in their backyard or enjoying a cozy blanket in the park, Augusta will certainly be filled with the echoes of fireworks to celebrate the Fourth of July throughout the weekend.
