Augusta cemeteries to reopen after storm damage

Augusta’s three public cemeteries will reopen for the first time since Hurricane Helene on a limited basis March 26.

Visitors will be required to sign a waiver and staff will be present to guide them and keep them away from restricted areas, the city said in a statement.

The reopening will happen in three phases: 

  • Initial reopening: The cemeteries will be open from 8-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, March 26-28
  • Expanded hours: Starting March 31, the cemeteries will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon April 5-6 by appointment
  • Full reopening: Starting April 7, the cemeteries will be fully open to visitors. Guests will be required to sign in.
