Augusta’s Charter Review Committee meets for a fifth time at 10 a.m. Thursday in the commission chamber.

The committee meets every other Thursday. This week’s agenda includes the following:

  • Public comment by former commissioners Moses Todd and Ben Hasan. Hasan requested to speak on a survey completed by committee members and the date voters will be asked to approve charter changes.
  • A presentation by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government on the results of an anonymous survey submitted by members. Survey questions included:
    • What portions of the charter should be changed – with page numbers
    • What would strengthen the government’s “ability to efficiently deliver essential services”
    • What does not need to be changed
    • What are your greatest concerns about the charter review process
  • A recap from Vinson of the charter review process so far
  • Voting to remove “anticipatory language” identified by the Vinson Institute in the charter document
  • Voting to remove items appearing in the document that are actually under state jurisdiction

The meeting will be live-streamed on the city website and Youtube. For more information, visit the Charter Review Committee web page.
