Augusta Christian loses homecoming game against Heathwood Hall Episcopal

The Heathwood Hall Episcopal Highlanders (4-2) came back to the Augusta Christian Lions (2-4) at the Home of the Lions on Friday night. 

The Lions struck first with less than 6 minutes left in the first quarter when quarterback Wilson Donnelly threw a touchdown pass to Dallas Carter. Augusta Christian succeeded with a 2-point conversion with a pass from Donnelly to Luke Wilson, who has an offer from Jacksonville State. 

Before the end of the first quarter, the Lions struck once more on a 38-yard field goal kick from Donnelly, bringing the score to 11-0. 

Within the first two minutes of the second quarter, the Lions entered field goal range and kicked a 22-yard field goal bringing the score to 14-0. 

The Highlanders finally scored towards the end of the second quarter with a field goal attempt from kicker Will Frick. The ball was fumbled on the play but recovered by Frick, who passed the ball to Pierce Avery for a touchdown. Frick’s extra point kick was good, bringing the score to 14-7. 

The Highlanders opened up the third quarter with a touchdown pass from quarterback Patrick Belk to Thompson Dubose and an extra point kick bringing the score even.

With less than two minutes in the third quarter, Donnelly successfully kicked another field goal for the Lions again gaining the lead at 17-14. 

The winning touchdown for the Highlanders was scored with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter. Belk threw a pass to a wide-open Dylan Lesesne who ran it into the endzone without opposition. 

The final score was 21-17. 

Heathwood will host Laurence Manning Academy next Friday, September 30. Augusta Christian will travel to Columbia SC to play Hammond.
