Christmas parades cancellations, rescheduling of tree lightings announced

The City of Grovetown has cancelled its 2023 Christmas parade and rescheduled the tree lighting due to the predicted inclement weather on Saturday.

In regard to the Christmas Festival, we are postponing this event until Friday, December 8th, 2023, from 5PM-9PM at Liberty Park. We encourage everyone to come out and celebrate the holiday season with us on this date,” said the City of Grovetown in a Facebook post.

The Augusta Christmas tree lighting has been rescheduled due to the possibility of inclement weather this Saturday.

Originally scheduled for Dec. 2, the tree lighting will now be held on Dec. 9 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Augusta Commons, according to a press release. The tree lighting and fireworks will begin at 6:15 p.m. 

Activities at the event will include a train ride, crafts, visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus and the Mayor’s Christmas card contest. The entertainment will be provided from students in Richmond County schools. 

Columbia County and Aiken have both rescheduled their tree lightings to Thursday, Nov. 30. 

The North Augusta Christmas parade is being rescheduled from Sunday, Dec. 3 to Dec. 10, according to the North Augusta Lions Facebook page.

The GVW Christmas parade has been cancelled, according to the GVW Fire Department Community Services Facebook page.

The New Ellenton Christmas parade has been cancelled, according to the city Facebook page.

Tinseltown Forest in North Augusta has been rescheduled to Dec. 9.
