Augusta’s mayor and at least nine commissioners spent three hours behind closed doors Friday reviewing the qualifications of six candidates for city administrator.

Commissioner Tony Lewis said the session was “long” but also “productive” after the group opened the doors to adjourn around 5 p.m.

Interviews with top picks are set to begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Commissioner Sean Frantom said.

Commissioner Wayne Guilfoyle said the meeting was “somewhat” productive.

Central Services Director Takiyah Douse has served as interim administrator since March 2022, when Administrator Odie Donald II resigned after 14 months.

The city hired a search firm, Developmental Associates, to conduct the search. Candidates were required to come from the southeastern U.S., have a master’s degree in public or business administration or related experience and have worked for a government at some point during the last three years.

The search produced as many as four local candidates, Guilfoyle has said.

The Augusta Press has requested the names of the six finalists from the city, but city officials have refused so far to release the information. State open records law requires a government release the names of at least three finalists for an agency head position prior to making the hire.
