Augusta Commission to Meet Today

Augusta Commissioners are set to meet today via Zoom to discuss mainly vehicle purchases.

An agenda item will have the commission considering the purchase a grant-funded mobile pet-adoption van for $142,742. They will also consider the purchase of 10 vehicles for the Sheriff’s Office at a total of $293,418.

Another purchase is for two mini-excavators for the Utilities Department for a total cost of $107,010.

Commissioners will also hear an update on Mayor Hardie Davis and Sheriff Richard Roundtree’s  homeless initiative “Finding a Way HOME.”

The commission will discuss a date to return to face-to-face meetings. Members have been meeting Zoom amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Commissioners will also hear an update from City Administrator Odie Donald Update on the COVID-19 Augusta Forward Plan which was first presented on Jan. 19, 2021.

Finally, as first reported by Sylvia Cooper in The Augusta Press, former commissioner Marion Williams will address the commission on the problem of stray dogs.
