Augusta early voting continues strong. View sample ballots here

The second day of early voting in Augusta elections saw 537 visit the polls, including 454, or 85%, who selected a Democratic ticket.

The local Democratic primary ballot has primary contests for sheriff, district attorney, state House District 129 and U.S. Representative. The Republican ballot for Augusta has no contested primaries.

Georgia has no formal party registration, although a voter’s choice of ballot is logged in their voting record.

On Day 2 of early voting at four Augusta sites, 1,157 had cast early ballots in the May 21 general primary and nonpartisan election. That’s about .9% of active registered Richmond County voters.

By comparison, 130 voted Tuesday in Columbia County, bringing its two-day total to 239. The county has contested Republican primaries for State House District 131 and County Commission districts 2 and 3.

In Richmond County, early voting continues at Augusta Municipal Building, Diamond Lakes Community Center, the Charles Evans Community Center and Warren Road Community Center through May 17.

In Columbia County, early voting sites are at the Board of Elections Office and the former Euchee Creek Library.

On Republican, Democratic and nonpartisan Augusta-Richmond County ballots are nonpartisan contests for Augusta Commission and Judge of Superior Court.

The Linda Beazley Room at Augusta Municipal Building again led early voting Tuesday with 195 voting. Eighteen voted Republican, 176 voted Democrat and one voted nonpartisan.

The Robert Howard Community Center at Diamond Lakes Regional Park saw 172 vote, 164 of them Democrat. Warren Road saw 122 vote including 41 Republican and 164 Democrat.

The Charles Evans advance voting site had 48 vote Tuesday, including 37 who selected a Democratic ballot.
