Committed to keeping residents safe, the Augusta Fire Department will be ensuring that every home has working smoke alarms on Friday, Jan. 31, by conducting a Smoke Alarm Blitz on Etterle Road from 2 to 4 p.m.

During this initiative, firefighters and the Fire Bureau will visit locals from door to door to check and instill smoke alarms in homes that need them.

The targeted outreach will cover approximately 48 homes, according to a press release from the Augusta Fire Department.

Fire crews will also provide important fire safety education to residents to reinforce the importance of early warning systems in preventing fire-related injuries and fatalities.

“The goal is to ensure that all homes in the area are properly equipped with working smoke alarms and that families understand how to respond in the event of a fire emergency,” stated a press release from the Augusta Fire Department.

Fire Chief Antonio Burden said having a working smoke alarm is extremely important as it can mean the difference between life and death.

“This blitz is part of our ongoing effort to protect and educate the community, ensuring that every household is prepared,” Burden said.

Residents in the area are encouraged to welcome firefighters into their homes to test existing smoke alarms and receive free installation if needed.
