A 2-year-old girl was killed Friday night along Peters Road in Augusta after a woman drove up on the sidewalk where the child was playing and ran her over, authorities said,
The toddler was rushed to Wellstar MCH Hospital, where the victim was declared deceased upon arrival, sheriff’s Sgt. Walter McNeil Jr. said. Coroner Mark Bowen said the child was declared dead at 9:22 p.m. Friday.
The incident happened after dark as the girl was playing on the sidewalk with their family. That’s when the female driver drove up on the sidewalk, running over the toddler, a press release said.
Bowen did not identify the child, saying the identity will be released at a later time.
Peters Road is located within Allen Homes community, sitting off Laney Walker Boulevard and next to Gordon Highway.
