The Augusta GreenJackets have been formally connected with the Atlanta Braves’ minor league system, and a newfound excitement has been buzzing both around the city and within the organization.
The GreenJackets have been affiliated with the San Francisco Giants organization since 2004. With this new 10-year agreement, the GreenJackets will now be a part of a Braves farm system that has been touted as one of the best in the country for the last few seasons.

The news broke, and the intrigue began to bubble up. No one is more excited than the GreenJackets front office staff, namely General Manager Brandon Greene.
“I think it’s already been shown,” Greene said in talking about the energy the local community exhibited when the announcement was made. “It made news in the local area. A lot of people got really excited. Our current season ticket holders, to our new season ticket holders, to our partners. You could just tell the excitement. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a GreenJackets game, so any new excitement was good to hear.”
Professional baseball went into a frenzy last season when the COVID-19 pandemic took the world by storm. Minor league play didn’t go forward at all, and major league play was reduced to a 60-game season as opposed to the typical 182 games.
The lack of a minor league season this past year put a damper on the community’s rekindled interest in baseball that arose with the establishment of SRP Park.

The GreenJackets moved from Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta to SRP Park across the river in North Augusta in 2018. Greene said that with the new park, the team knew they checked all the boxes on what major league teams were looking for.
The GreenJackets will remain a Low-A affiliate, the same as they were with the Giants.
The new roster and who will play for the team remains up in the air, as those higher up in the Braves organization deliberate. According to Greene, the schedule for the 2021 season will be released in the next few weeks.
