Residents and visitors should prepare for road closures and traffic delays on Saturday, Feb. 22, as the 2025 Augusta Half Marathon, 10K and 5K takes place across the city of Augusta.

Presented by Wier/Stewart, the race will start and end at Augusta Unviersity’s Summerville Campus, located at 2500 Walton Way, with events running from 7 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

The Half Marathon will begin at 7:15 a.m., followed by the 10K and 5K at 7:45 a.m. Additionally, the Medals for Miles Kids Fun Run is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

The event will affect roads throughout Augusta, including the Augusta Canal, Summerville, and the Lakemont/Lake Olmstead areas.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Department will manage road closures and reopen intersections once the last runner has passed, with all closures expected to end by 10 a.m., according to a press release from the Augusta Sports Council.

However, the most significant impact will be at the turn circle entrance off Walton Way and Fleming Avenue, which will remain closed from 4 a.m. to noon. for the race’s start and finish line setup.

While no major road closures are planned outside of the turn circle entrance, significant one-way traffic is expected along the race route.

Residents and businesses along affected roads have been notified via mail, with contact information provided for the Augusta Sports Council.

With thousands of runners expected to participate, Augusta residents and businesses should plan accordingly for potential traffic congestion, according to the Augusta Sports Council.

Law enforcement and race organizers are urging drivers to use alternate routes and allow extra time for travel. Meanwhile, participants and spectators are encouraged to check road impact maps and plan accordingly to ensure a smooth race day experience.
