A new, well-known attorney is joining the Augusta Judicial Circuit as an assistant district attorney.
Linda Dunikoski was sworn in on Jan. 3 as assistant district attorney and will serve in leadership as the chief of appeals and director of attorney development, according to Augusta District Attorney Jared Williams.
In the announcement, Williams said last year the Augusta Commission approved the 2025 budget, which included $1.1 million in additional funding for the D.A.’s office. With this increase in funding, Augusta was able to get Dunikoski, formerly of the Cobb and Fulton D.A.’s offices.
Dunikoski is best known for being the lead prosecutor in the case against the three men who killed Ahmaud Arbery. In Augusta, she will not only represent the citizens of Richmond and Burke counties in the highest courts, but will also train local prosecutors and assist in jury trials that involve serious, violent felonies, Williams said.
“We are grateful to have the experience, talent, and leadership of a prosecutor like Mrs. Dunikoski,” Williams said. “Recruiting her to serve the citizens of our community would not have been possible without the investment our Commission and city leadership made. This is just the beginning of our renewed efforts to make the Augusta Judicial Circuit the safest place to live, work, and raise a family.”
