Students and parents gathered at The Augusta Commons on Saturday afternoon for J.R.’s Annual End of School Block Party, an over 30-year-old Augusta tradition that celebrated the conclusion of another academic year.
Hosted in partnership with Perry Broadcasting, Attorney Keith B. Johnson, and James “J.R.” Riles, the block party featured live music, inflatables, free food and giveaways including bikes, tablets and laptops.

Fun for students and parents
Lakeyshia Sherrod said she came out to the block party to do something fun with her 7-year-old son, Dallas.
“Normally on Saturdays, I like to do something with him. So I thought that this would be a good idea, you know, for us to come out, for him to win prizes. Unite with family, friends and other people,” she said.
Sherrod said she liked seeing everyone have fun.
“The kids are out enjoying themselves, everybody’s got a smile on their face and they’re out of school,” she said.

Kicking off the summer
Two students from Glenn Hills Middle School, Christian Crawford and Jamyia Clark, talked about their excitement for the beginning of summer and being able to kick it off with a block party.
Crawford said that she was enjoying the atmosphere of the event. “Everybody’s happy,” she said.
Clark said she was most enthusiastic about “having fun and meeting new people” at the Saturday event.
