An Augusta man is facing multiple charges stemming from a car chase and shooting incident in south Augusta Sunday.

Around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Richmond County Road Patrol deputies went in pursuit of a Ford Fiesta on Tobacco Road. One of the vehicle’s occupants, Olajuan Williams, 24, began firing a rifle at the pursuing deputies, according to an email from Sgt. Caleb Lee with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Quaterrio Martin, 21, was driving the Fiesta when it struck two vehicles on Meadowbrook Drive causing minor injuries to two people.

The two men attempted to flee on foot, but they were apprehended and charged.

Upon further investigation into this incident, Martin has been released from custody and will not be charged, according to a Monday email from Sgt. William McCarty.

Williams has been charged with terroristic threats and acts, kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and fleeing/attempting to elude.
