The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon in the 1500 block of 15th Street in Augusta, resulting in the death of one man.
According to RCSO Sergeant John Perry, the incident unfolded around 4 p.m. Sunday when an adult male suspect was reportedly showing a handgun to another adult male victim. During the interaction, the weapon was accidentally discharged, striking the victim in the chest.
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where the victim later succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect is cooperating with authorities, and the handgun has been recovered. The investigation remains in its early stages, and further details are not yet available.
