A man wanted on multiple charges gave Richmond County deputies more of a workout than expected Saturday morning — including a surprise ceiling drop and a failed window escape.
Deputies responded to a home on Thornberry Drive around 11:49 a.m. Saturday to serve an outstanding warrant for 40-year-old Anthony Lamar Bass of Alene Circle. After knocking on the door and entering the residence, officers began clearing the rooms but couldn’t initially locate the suspect. They were soon tipped off that Bass was indeed inside the home.
As deputies continued their search, they heard movement above them — and moments later, Bass fell through the ceiling, crashing into the room below.
He immediately attempted to flee by diving through a closed window, but instead bounced off the glass. Still trying to escape, he spun around and made another run for it before deputies wrestled him to the ground, deployed a taser, and took him into custody.
Bass now faces a laundry list of charges, including two counts of simple battery under the Family Violence Act, fleeing police, reckless driving, driving while license suspended, no insurance, failure to appear, driving on the wrong side of the road, suspended registration, and a probation/parole hold.
Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported — though the ceiling, the window, and Bass’s getaway plans didn’t fare quite as well.
