The Richmond County Coroner’s Office is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred Sunday morning on I-520 near Wheeler Road.

James Allen Griffin Jr., 42, of the 3000 block of Sterling Road, was driving on I-520 when his vehicle left the roadway and rolled over several times, Coroner Mark Bowen said.

Griffin was ejected from the vehicle.  He was transported to Doctors Hospital of Augusta by EMS where he was pronounced dead at 2:53 a.m. Sunday. An autopsy has been scheduled.

Griffin’s Facebook page says he went to Laney High School. He was remembered online by a woman who goes by “Lovely Ti Michelle”. She said this: “He started off as just my sister’s boyfriend but he became FAMILY …My mom adored him… When my mom was in her final days he made sure he came to sit by her… when my dad passed over a year ago he reached out …. I never called him Al or James … I would say ‘What’s up James Allen Griffin Jr?’ This is tough.”
