Augusta man kills wife, fatally shoots himself on Byron Place

(UPDATED) An Augusta man shot his wife dead Sunday and then fatally shot himself at their home on Byron Place, authorities said.

The victim, Kimiko Stewart, 86, was found inside the residence on the 3400 block of Byron Place with at least one gunshot wound Sunday night and was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:10 p.m., Coroner Mark Bowen said.

The husband. 86-year-old Jerome Stewart, was also found inside the residence with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to Wellstar MCG Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:22 p.m. Sunday, the coroner said.
