An Augusta man who works on Fort Gordon was arrested Tuesday on allegations that he arranged a Grovetown meet-up to perform sex acts on someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl.

Marcus Donnell Brown, 34, was taken into custody when he showed up in Grovetown to meet the juvenile, who was instead a Grovetown officer posing as the girl, according to Police Chief Jamey Kitchens. He was charged with criminal attempted child molestation.

“Earlier this morning, Mr. Brown began chatting with what he believed to be a 14yr old female on a social media application,” Kitchens said in a press release. “Despite being advised multiple times that he was conversing with a juvenile and even admitting that he could ‘go to jail,’ Mr. Brown continued to send sexually explicit messages while also arranging a meeting location.”

During the chats, Brown was specific and graphic in his desires, despite being reminded that he was conversing with a juvenile, the chief said. He was taken into custody after traveling to a pre-determined meeting location in Grovetown, where instead of meeting a 14 yr old female, he was met by Capt. Will Loomer and Chief Kitchens.

After his arrest, Brown was informed that he had in fact been messaging Capt. Loomer. He was then transported to the Columbia County Detention Center.

“The Grovetown Police Department is proud to partner with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation through the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force and remains committed to our efforts in identifying and removing from our communities those who prey on our most vulnerable,” Chief Kitchens said.

Brown works at Fort Gordon in a civilian capacity, the chief said.
