Augusta man who is linked to Friday shooting was wanted for previous violence

Dennis Berrien

Date: December 26, 2025

Authorities have arrested a man in connection with two separate shooting incidents in Richmond County, including one that occurred Friday, leaving a victim in critical condition. The individual was already wanted for a December 4 shooting.

The suspect, identified as Dennis Berrien, faces charges in both incidents. The first shooting involved a domestic dispute with Berrien’s girlfriend, Brandi Woods. Investigators said he fired multiple shots in her direction before fleeing, damaging a vehicle belonging to Woods’ grandmother. A BOLO was issued at the time.

Friday’s shooting occurred near the 2300 block of Winston Way. Berrien shot Shaquille Jones, who was hospitalized in critical condition. Deputies and Criminal Investigations personnel responded quickly, secured the scene, and gathered witness descriptions.

Deputy Crystal Gianotti and her K9 partner tracked Berrien, and surveillance footage confirmed his path. Deputy Alain Gagne located him at an AM-PM gas station wearing clothing matching witness descriptions. He initially gave a false name, but a fingerprint scan confirmed his identity. He was taken into custody without incident.

The response involved Road Patrol, Criminal Investigations, K9 units, and the Sheriff’s Office Drone Team. Sheriff Eugene Brantley praised the coordinated effort and noted a decline in violent crime this year, including a 35 percent drop in aggravated assaults and homicides compared to last year.

Berrien faces charges for both shootings, with additional charges possible as investigations continue. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said it remains committed to protecting the community and holding violent offenders accountable.
