Augusta Mayor Meets With U.S. Surgeon General

Date: January 13, 2021

It is impossible to catch the coronavirus from the currently available vaccines, U. S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams told Augusta Mayor Davis in an online meeting yesterday.

“The vaccines were created using mitochondrial RNA, not the virus itself,” according to Adams. “Therefore, people need to know that they cannot get the virus from being vaccinated.”

The surgeon general explained the makeup of the two vaccines currently available. Most importantly, he said that neither of the vaccines use a live version of the virus in their makeup.

The vaccines simply allow the body to recognize the virus and produce the antibodies needed to fight the infection. People with cancer, autoimmune disease and women who are pregnant can safely be vaccinated.

Davis and Adams also discussed government responses to the coronavirus in their meeting.

Adams made it clear that conversations between him and city leaders are important: “Conversations such as these are important because we do not want misinformation to erode the public trust in the vaccination.”

Currently, the vaccine is becoming available locally for front line health care workers and those over the age of 65. Both Davis and the surgeon general stated the importance of everyone contacting the Georgia Department of Public Health via its website at www.dph.georgia.gov/covid-vaccine to sign up for the vaccine.

Adams says there are two vaccines available and two more in the pipeline. He says the goal is to have all Americans vaccinated by July 2021

“We are running a race,” says Adams, ”and at this time, we can see the finish line. But people need to keep taking precautions by following the three W’s. That is wear a mask, wash your hands and watch your distance.”
