Augusta one of five cities picked for Biden’s Investing in America Agenda

Date: May 19, 2023

Augusta is one of five worforce hub cities selected to participate in President Biden’s Investing in America agenda meant to help rebuild the economy.

The investment will focus on preparing and creating pathways for Augustans to good-paying jobs created by the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act.

“With Georgia being the number one state in which to do business for nine consecutive years, Augusta stands at the forefront of this development with multi-billion-dollar companies and exceptional educational entities,” Mayor Garnett Johnson’s office said in a statement.

Johnson said his office will help to enhance the efforts of the investment.

The administration selected Augusta because it’s home to Fort Gordon, the Medical College of Georgia, and the Savannah River Nuclear Power Plant, according to a fact sheet.

The four other chosen hubs are Phoenix; Columbus, Ohio; Baltimore; and Pittsburgh. Each city is centered on a key industry, the administration said in the announcement.

“These efforts will not only strengthen the five cities — they will create models that the administration will work to replicate with partners across the country,” the announcement said.
