Augusta Preparatory Day School (APDS) is planning to build a gate around its grounds, along with a new entrance to the campus along Flowing Wells Road.

According to a letter from local architectural firm Studio 3 Design Group on behalf of the school to Columbia County, APDS intends to construct a monumental entrance, made of brick and cast stone masonry, with cast aluminum signage and an ornamental metal gate. The entrance will elevate from six to 12 feet high, with the tallest parts of the entrance flanking the school’s access into its campus on Bussey Lane.

A masonry fence, also built with brick and cast stone, will surround the campus—515 feet to the northeast corner and 525 feet to the southeast corner, ranging between 5’6  and seven feet tall, connecting to either side of the monumental entrance.

The letter accompanies a request to revise the school’s Special (S-1) zoning to allow for the new gate and fence, and states that the monumental entrance would be built “immediately,” while the security gate would be a second phase of the project.

The Columbia County Planning Commission is slated to consider the school’s request during its meeting on June 5.
