Augusta Preparatory Day School is preparing for an addition to its campus, first by seeking approval from Columbia County.

On Feb. 16, the school, along with architect Nick Dickinson, submitted a request to revise the zoning for its location at 285 Flowing Wells Rd., which is presently S-1, or special district. Attached to the application were site plans and a narrative expressing Augusta Prep’s aim to construct a new science building to replace the current labs.

The narrative states that the proposed building will be two stories and approximately 19,000 square feet. The document projects that after the new building is complete, the private school will be able accommodate a maximum of 600 students.

The new structure will be on the interior portion of the 50-acre campus, will not affect the ingress and egress of the property and “will not have any visual impact to the neighboring communities,” according to the included narrative.

The Columbia County Planning Commission will review the school’s major revision request on March 17, and the Board of Commissioners is scheduled to address the matter on March 29.
