Augusta Preparatory Day School has recently announced a big financial boost to the Malone Family Foundation scholarship program.
According to a press release from Augusta Preparatory Day School, the facility has received a $500,000 grant from the Malone Foundation to help further provide educational opportunities for new students in the top five percent of their class – particularly those who demonstrate academic achievement, exemplary citizenship, leadership potential and financial need.
In 2009, Augusta Prep was, and continues to be, the only school in Georgia to be selected by the Malone Family Foundation as one of the 48 schools nationwide to be given a $2 million endowment.
”These partner schools were selected on the basis of their academic caliber; the quality of their staff; excellent accommodations for gifted and talented students; strong AP / IB and enrichment programs; attention to the individual student’s needs, interests and talents; financial strength and stability; a commitment to financial aid; and an economically, culturally, ethnically, and socially diverse population,” per the Malone Family Foundation website.
Augusta Prep continues to use interest from the endowment to fund the annual Malone Scholarship program; this plan offers renewable scholarships which can pay up to 100 percent of tuition and most fees for students who are U.S. citizens in grades 7-12.
“We are so thrilled that John Malone decided to invest further in our ability to provide life-changing education for students in the CSRA,” said Augusta Prep Head of School Derrick Willard.
The Malone Family Foundation, founded in 1997 by Dr. John C. Malone, a well-known communications and media executive and investor, and his family, began with one principal initial objective: to improve access to quality education, particularly at the secondary school level, for highly capable students who lack the financial resources to best develop their talents.
“This endowment expands our ability to provide access through scholarships to a Prep education. I hope families who qualify and want the very best education for their children will apply,” said Willard.
