2035 Comprehensive Plan Update

What: Envision Augusta Comprehensive Plan 5-year Update kick-off

Date: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 4

Location: Augusta Municipal Building, Linda Beazley Room, first floor, 535 Telfair St.

Planning retreat at James Brown Arena

What: Augusta Commission planning retreat 

Date: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 5

Location: Augusta Entertainment Complex Coliseum Authority Conference Room, 601 Seventh St.

Topics: The commission retreat will include presentations from the Augusta Metro and Greater Augusta Black chambers of commerce. Hardin Watkins of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government is giving a presentation about the difference in forms of government with an administrator and manager and the commission is scheduled to discuss the position of administrator, which is held on an interim basis by Takiyah Douse. Augusta also has plans to implement a half-cent sales tax to fund construction of a new James Brown Arena. The issue will go before voters on an upcoming ballot.

What: Augusta Regional Transportation Study citizens advisory meeting

Augusta Community Engagement Forum

What: The second-annual Augusta on Display is a three-hour trade-show-style event. The public can meet their elected officials, speak one-on-one with city departments and share opinions about how tax dollars should be spent.

Date: 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 3

Location: Julian Smith Casino, 2200 Broad St.

More: There will be bouncy houses for children and family-friendly opportunities to explore a variety of government vehicles.
