The House and Senate Reapportionment Committees will hold a town hall meeting in Augusta on Wednesday, Aug. 11 from 5 – 7 p.m. The date was originally set for Aug. 30.

The committees are collecting citizen input on the redistricting process that happens every 10 years.

The committees are led by Rep. Bonnie Rich (R-Suwanee) and Sen. John F. Kennedy (R-Macon), and the town hall will still take place at Savannah Rapids Pavilion, located at 3300 Evans to Locks Rd.

Pichaya Poy Winichakul, a staff attorney for the Southern Poverty Law Center, expressed concern last week regarding the location.

“Community members have raised concerns that the pathway from the parking lot into the venue presents difficulties for those with an ambulatory disability,” she said. “Moreover, the venue is not on a bus line and there are limited transportation options to attend the hearing.”

Citizens can also submit written comments here.

The Augusta hearing will be livestreamed at: https://www.legis.ga.gov/ and videos of the previous 10 meetings are available there, as well.
