Augusta is getting close to hiring two new department heads and released a handful of finalist names Thursday.

The position of chief information officer has been vacant since September, when former CIO Tameka Allen was promoted to city administrator. The position was formerly known as IT director.

The finalists released by the city for CIO are Reggie Horne, David Jackson and Shahid Masood.

Horne was the deputy IT director who is serving as interim CIO. He has been with the city since 2007 and his education includes Curtis Baptist High School, according to a Facebook profile.

Jackson is chief of regional IT operations for the Department of Defense, according to his Linkedin profile. He previously spent 14 years with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, leaving as a senior IT project manager. Jackson holds Master’s degrees from Webster University and the University of Phoenix.

The Augusta Press was unable to identify who named Shahid Masood was a finalist. The city released only the finalists’ names.

The Augusta Press has requested from the city the resumes and application materials for the five candidates named Thursday and will request additional materials not exempt from disclosure under Georgia open meetings and records laws. CIO and Central Services director are not considered agency heads under the laws.

The city identified only two finalists for the position of Central Services director. The position oversees maintenance, upkeep and construction at the city’s facilities.

Finalist Ron Lampkin has served as interim central services director for more than three years. A city employee since 2014, Lampkin was previously deputy director under Takiyah Douse until Douse was named interim city administrator in February 2022.
