The Augusta Human Resources Department will be hosting a mega hiring event next month. On the first, second and third Thursdays in August, the department will welcome jobseekers for a variety of roles across the city’s administration.
“We definitely have a wide range,” said city employment manager Whitney Sims. “We have accounting positions available, we have an HR position available, engineering, a few library positions… we have some for every department that’s on that list.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring resumes and be prepared to be interviewed on the spot. Prospective employees will have the opportunity to inquire into some 70 positions open in Augusta-Richmond County, from jobs in the fire department to the coroner’s office, to utilities and Augusta Transit.
Human Resources hosted its last mega hiring in February, where 204 people attended. That hiring event yielded 10 job offers from the county, said Sims, though fewer departments were involved.
“We did get more departments to participate in August,” she said.
The first event will be on Aug. 3, during which jobseekers can meet officials from the Augusta Fire Department, the Richmond County Correctional Institution, E-911, the Richmond County Sheriff’s and Marshal’s Offices, District Attorney, the Public Defender’s Office and the Coroner’s Office.
On Aug. 10, the event will host hiring sessions from Augusta Utilities, Engineering and Environmental Services, the city’s Central Services Department, Augusta Parks & Recreation, the Augusta Regional Airport, and Augusta Transit.
Finally, on Aug. 17, applicants can meet representatives from Augusta’s Human Resources Department, Compliance Department, Finance Department, Planning & Development, the Tax Assessor’s Office and the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library System.
All sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Linda W. Beazley Room of the Augusta Municipal Building, 535 Telfair St.
Sims also notes that while the Human Resources Dept. organizes the mega hiring event primarily to draw quality talent to Richmond County, all citizens — not just those looking for work — are welcome and encouraged to attend.
“It’s also just for any constituents who want to come out and learn more about the city of Augusta and what services that we have to offer for them,” said Sims. “They can come out as well and ask questions and get to know the people who are working for them.”
