An Augusta soldier from Fort Eisenhower was killed Saturday in a tragic motorcycle accident, and his fiancée is sharing a heart-breaking message about it.

Johnathan Campbell, 21, lost control of his motorcycle Saturday afternoon on the westbound I-20 ramp at I-520 in Richmond County. He lost control of the motorcycle and struck the wall of the exit ramp while traveling too fast for conditions, Coroner Mark Bowen said. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 4:45 p.m.

The biker’s fiancée, Amanda Rae Karsten, shared photos of Campbell and this devastating message about the upcoming holidays:

“We were supposed to be sharing our engagement with our families. We were supposed to get married and start a life together. You were supposed to grow old wrinkly. You were supposed to live.

“I never thought I would get the call that the man I love is gone. You were such a bright, loving, funny, kind man. You made me the happiest woman in the world.

“Words cannot express how much my heart hurts for the life that was taken way too soon.

I loved you so incredibly much sweetheart. I will miss you forever.

12-23-23 SGT Johnathan Campbell.

Rest peacefully my love.”

The sheriff’s office said Campbell was going too fast and failed to maintain his lane when the wreck occurred just before 4 p.m. Saturday.

The biker’s grandmother, Dinah Campbell, posted her reaction to Amanda’s loving post and expressed her grief as well.

“This is Johnathans Nana. My heart is broken for us and for you and Chris, and Jadyn and Kimberly. They lived with us for five years and Johnathan felt like he was our son too. My husband loved him so much and because he has dementia I cannot tell him. I want you to know I am so thankful Johnathan found you and love before he left this world… We we’re so proud of him and he will never be out of our heart and minds.”
