Date: July 29, 2024

Richmond County Solicitor General Omeeka Loggins has been named solicitor general of the year.

The honor was announced at the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia Summer Conference earlier this week.

The peer-nominated award recognizes Georgia solicitors for their contributions to the prosecution profession.

First elected in 2016, Loggins spearheaded the creation of Augusta’s first records restriction clinic in 2018.

Now known as the Second Chance Clinic, the clinic helps those arrested or convicted of minor offenses get the charges off the public record.

Loggins, the former president of the Augusta Bar Association and a Democrat, was unopposed for reelection in 2020 and again this year.

Her office, which prosecutes misdemeanor offenses in Richmond County State Court, has focused on drunk driving and domestic violence prosecutions, Loggins told The Augusta Press.

Loggins also made news when her husband Eric led an unsuccessful effort to recall sheriff Richard Roundtree.

The effort highlighted allegations Roundtree’s office mishandled an impaired-driving wreck that landed at the Loggins’ home.
