A local man was recently caught growing magic mushrooms in a house filled with other drugs, according to arrest warrants.
Kenyon Booz, 31, was also found with a silencer in his possession, a Micro Roni Gen 4, considered a dangerous weapon, authorities said.
MThe discovery of the mushroom-growing operation was found during an executed search warrant Aug. 26 on the 3000 block of Happy Drive in Augusta, which is off Wheeless Road.
According to arrest warrants, authorities found a sealed clear 32-quart storage container that contained Psilocybin – also known as magic mushrooms. It was next to the water heater in the laundry room. An investigator also discovered fertilizer, base and other material associated with a mushroom grow. They looked in the rear bedroom and located a grow tent as well.
Psilocybin is a hallucinogenic chemical in certain mushrooms. Individuals use psilocybin as a recreational drug, provide feelings of euphoria and sensory distortion that are common to hallucinogenic drugs, such as LSD.
During their search of the Happy Drive residence, Richmond County investigators also seized:
• 52 grams of marijuana packaged in four separate black Ziplock bags on the living room couch.
• 1.1 grams of powder cocaine in two Ziplock bags along with a digital scale.
• A green Glock 7 gun.
Booz remained in jail Monday under no bond for charges of manufacture of hallucinogen, possession of cocaine and marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of silencer, and weapon possession.
A booking sheet has his home address listed on Bath Edie Road in Hephzibah.
Booz is the same man who fired a gun into the air several times outside Club Climax on 2019. Witnesses said Booz was jealous that his girlfriend was with another man and reacted by firing a Glock 17 handgun into the air outside the club on Gordon HIghway. No one was injured.
Booz pleaded guilty to reckless conduct and was given a year of probation, 20 hours of community service and fines.
