An Augusta teen was charged Sunday with robbing a man of his iPhone at gunpoint, authorities said.
Samuel Lavert Roberson, 17, of Kensington Drive East, had agreed to meet the young victim last month at Fox Den Apartments and give the victim cash for his iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Instead, Roberson whipped out a gun and demanded he hand over his phone, according to arrest warrant. The suspect then fled with the phone, valued at $1,100.
The incident happened at 9:40 p.m. on Nov. 13, and the teen suspect was finally identified and captured on Sunday. Roberson was charged with armed robbery and weapon possession. He was also charged with two unrelated counts of misdemeanor theft by taking from March and April.
Roberson was being held Monday at the jail under no bond.
Experts say that sellers should meet in a public place, consider bringing a friend, set up your phone to track your location to friends and family, only bring the agreed-upon cash and do the transaction in daylight hours.
