Augusta University declines comment on report of Elm Hall rape

Date: May 26, 2024

Augusta University officials declined to comment on a recent report of a student’s rape inside a campus residence hall.

The campus report, just released this week, was filed after the victim’s father called on May 12 and said his 19-year-old daughter had been raped last August by a male student. According to the report, the assault occurred on Aug. 30, 2023, in Elm Hall. Elm Hall features 312 apartments, including studio style, one-bedroom style, and two-bedroom style spaces.

The father told police that he did not believe there was any current direct threat from the suspect. It was unclear what led to the delay in reporting.

Augusta University Police Lt. Detective D. Dewey was notified and the case was turned over to the investigation division, the report says.

Asked about the case this week, AU Communications Director Kevin Faigle said, “Since this is an open investigation, we won’t be making a comment at this time.”
