Augusta University chief nursing officer terminated

Date: January 21, 2022

Reports began surfacing in late December 2021 that Augusta University Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Laura Brower had been fired.

Sources close to the situation, who wish to be unnamed, say they witnessed Brower being led out of the building by security guards on campus.

Brower had worked for the university since June 2014.

Those sources also say that staff was warned to keep quiet about the firing and to avoid “spreading false rumors.”

Augusta University responded to an open records request with a document that showed the names of all people terminated from the University during the time period. Brower’s name was not on the list.

A second request yielded a separation notice, signed on Dec. 17, showing Brower was terminated for “gross negligence.”

The document did not define “gross negligence” or offer any explanation of what prompted Brower’s termination, and university officials have declined to define what they mean by the term “gross negligence.”

Brower has not responded to repeated requests for comment. Brower’s husband’s cell phone was reset without a voicemail option.

“They literally whisked her out of the building and then closed the wagons,” an unnamed source said. “It is all very strange.”
