Augusta wins big on Senior Day

No. 20 Augusta topped Clayton State 99-73 in Saturday’s Homecoming and Senior Day game for the Jaguars. Freshman Chris Britt led all scorers with 19 points, and Tyshaun Crawford (13 points), Ja’Queze Kirby (12) Darren Lucas-White (12) and Miguel Arnold (11) also scored in double figures.

Britt made 8 of 10 field goal attempts, including 3 of 4 from long distance. Lucas-White grabbed a game high 8 rebounds, and Kirby and Tyree Myers dished a team high 4 assists. Kirby also grabbed 7 rebounds and blocked two shots. Augusta made 55.6% of its field goal attempts and made 10 three pointers.

Augusta finished the regular season 23-5 overall and 14-4 in conference play ahead of next weekend’s Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Jaguars and USC Aiken (21-7, 14-4) finished as PBC co-Champions for the regular season. The Pacers earned the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament after sweeping Augusta in their two regular season games. However, Augusta will host the tournament because USC Aiken’s arena will be the host site for South Carolina High School League State Playoff games.

Thursday’s quarterfinal round schedule is as follows:

12:00 pm – #1 USC Aiken vs. #8 Georgia Southwestern
2:30 pm – #4 Lander vs. #5 Young Harris
5:00 pm – #2 Augusta vs. #7 Flagler
7:30 pm – #3 North Georgia vs. #6 Columbus StateThe semifinals will take place Friday evening and the championship game will be Sunday.

Augusta’s Senior Day presentation before the game recognized four of the greatest players in program history:

Tyshaun Crawford – 1,824 points (5th all-time), 950 rebounds (4th all-time)

Miguel Arnold – 1,793 points (6th all-time), 391 threes (1st all-time)

Tyree Myers – 1,363 points (16th all-time), 635 assists (1st all-time)

Darren Lucas-White – 1,196 points (24th all-time), 332 assists (7th all-time)
