A woman was injured Sunday night after gunfire struck a residence in Augusta, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s Lt. James Kelly said deputies were dispatched at 7:56 p.m. on Sunday to the 700 block of Bennock Mill Road in reference to shots being fired.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with several victims who were inside the home at the time of the incident. Lt. Kelly said the victims reported hearing multiple gunshots coming from outside the residence. After the gunfire stopped, they discovered that a 60-year-old woman inside the home had been struck by one of the rounds.
Central EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to Wellstar for medical treatment. Her condition was not immediately available, but her injuries were reportedly not life-threatening.
Investigators remained on scene late Sunday night as the investigation continued. Lt. Kelly said the case is still in its early stages and no additional information is being released at this time.
