Augusta woman fatally shot on Damascus Road; Suspect in custody

Sarah Raine Preddy, 25, has been arrested and charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to news release from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

“This case is still active and no further information will be released at this time,” the release said. “The report is unavailable at this time.

An Augusta woman was fatally shot Thursday night at Singleton Apartments, and a suspect is in custody, authorities said.

Shirley Bush, 65, of 2461 Damascus Road, was shot in the head in front of her apartment around 6:20 p.m. Thursday. She was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m., Coroner Mark Bowen said.

 A suspect was arrested at the scene, but a press release did not provide a name.

“No further details at this time due to the active investigation,” sheriff’s Sgt. Caleb Lee said in the release.
