Augusta woman killed in hit-and-run on Horseshoe Road

A 45-year-old Augusta woman died Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene on Horseshoe Road, according to authorities.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen identified the victim as Renay Brown. She was hit around 9 p.m. in the 900 block of Horseshoe Road and was transported by EMS to Wellstar MCG, where she was pronounced dead at 9:38 p.m.

According to Lt. James Kelly of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived to find Brown suffering from injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. The driver did not remain at the scene, and the vehicle involved has not yet been identified.

The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is investigating the fatal hit-and-run. An autopsy has been scheduled, and additional information will be released when available.
