Deputies say an Augusta woman attacked her girlfriend’s adult son and then instructed her three dogs to bite him.

Shannon Conley Tanner, 50, was arrested Dec. 24 for third-degree cruelty to children and battery.

According to reports, Richmond County deputies were called to Arrowhead Drive for a domestic disturbance between Tanner and her girlfriend’s 24-year-old son. The victim said Tanner struck him several times with her hands and other objects and then ordered her dogs to bite him. He told deputies that he never touched Tanner and only tried to break away from the altercation.

The dogs bit the victim, breaking his skin, a sheriff’s report says. The victim declined to go by ambulance to the hospital, but officers noticed that he had dog bites on one leg.

Animal Control took possession of the three dogs, and Tanner was arrested.

Tanner’s 5-year-old grandson was home during the incident and witnessed the attacks, leading to the child cruelty charge. Tanner, her girlfriend and the girlfriend’s son all lived together at the home, the report says.
