On New Year’s Eve, people in downtown Augusta shared their hopes and aspirations for 2025

Fresh starts and new experiences

“I am thinking about getting a certification for financial planning in 2025” said Melissa Richard.

Richard said that her mother passed away earlier this year, and she’s looking forward to a fresh start: “I do hope that 2025 is better than 2024.”

Military couple Bryan and Megan Howard also shared their hopes for the upcoming year.

Bryan, who leaves for basic training in two weeks, said he is “just trying to keep going…it’s a mindset.”

Megan added that her military career will soon take her to Germany.

“I’m hoping for a good unit out there and some new experiences, getting to see the culture and everything. Being able to travel is my biggest New Year’s resolution, and just being able to enjoy life,” Megan said.

Improvements to the city

Al G expressed that aside from spending more time with his children in 2025, he’d like to see improvements to the city of Augusta.

“Maybe some tax dollars spent on roads more often,” he said.

Personal goals

For Daphne Maysonet, the new year represents an opportunity to achieve personal goals, including the completion of her first book of poetry.

“I am very close to finishing it. It’s my first full collection of poetry,” said Maysonet, who came from New York City to work as an English professor at Augusta University.

“I’d like to travel a bit more this year than I have in the past couple of years,” she added. “And I also would like to generally work less.”
