In an annual mission that focuses on bringing water to those less fortunate, community members and families journeyed across North Augusta to downtown Augusta carrying buckets of lake water on Saturday morning, Nov. 18.

With 2.2 billion people lacking safe water to drink or having to travel three miles to acquire it, the CSRA Walk for Water event raises money every year for Water Mission – a Christian nonprofit that designs, builds and implements safe water, sanitation and hygiene solutions for people in developing countries and disaster areas.

Founded in 2001, with the help of 350 staff members, Water Mission has utilized innovative technology and engineering expertise to provide access to safe drinking water for more than four million people in 55 countries.

Starting from South Carolina’s SRP Park and ending in downtown Augusta’s St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, despite the summer-like heat, participants walked three miles together in support of Water Mission and its permanent programs in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

By raising awareness and funds to help end the global water crisis, members of the CSRA flooded Augusta’s Riverwalk as they carried large white buckets filled with water.
