German copper producer Aurubis is expanding its Augusta facility even further, it announced Tuesday.

The company broke ground on its metal recycling plant, Aurubis Richmond at Augusta Corporate Park in June. The facility is an investment of about $340 million. Aurubis estimated that it will process some 90,000 tons of complex metals annually, including those used for printed circuit boards and copper cables.

That number is doubling now as the company plans to add approximately an additional $265 million toward fast-tracking its expansion. Aurubis now projects this will increase throughput volume to some 180,000 tons of complex recycling materials per year.

Earlier this year when construction began, the company touted 125 jobs the new facility would bring to Augusta. With the expansion, now it expects to bring about 200 employees to the facility once both phases of construction are complete.

Aurubis expects the first phase of its Augusta site to come online in mid-2024, and its expansion complete by 2026.

With this expansion, and considering capital expenditure adjustment for infrastructure requirements and inflation, Aurubis aims to put about $640 million into its operations in Georgia, and expects to bring expects to generate operative earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization—of approximately  $180 million starting in fiscal year 2026-27.
