More development could be coming to Grovetown’s Lewiston Road corridor.
New Orleans-based Matthews Development LLC has requested to rezone 1.83-acre property at the intersection of Lewiston Road and Autumn Trail from Single-family Residential (R-2) and General Commercial (C-2) to Community Commercial (C-C).
The parcel is comprised of two properties: 426 Lewiston Road, owned by Kyoto Inc., and 5136 Autumn Trail, owned by Susan Hayslip, neighboring Popeye’s and Pinnacle Bank to its north across Autumn Trail, and Auto Zone and Longhorn to its south.

The applicant proposes to build a “restaurant and bank” on the mostly undeveloped property. An accompanying concept plan shows a 7,842-square foot Olive Garden across from a building of unspecified dimension listed as a Chase Branch.
While Chase Bank has not explicitly conveyed intentions to open a branch in Grovetown, it did announce last October plans to open a location in Augusta’s National Hills and another in Aiken, alongside two more branches in the CSRA over the next three years.
The Columbia County Planning Commission is scheduled to consider the rezoning request during its meeting on March 6.
