Bedbugs found at Monte Sano Elementary School

Bedbugs were found in a kindergarten classroom at Monte Sano Elementary School on Wednesday, Aug. 14. 

A letter sent home to parents said a kindergarten student was exposed to the bedbugs outside of school. While the school checked out the student, as a precaution the bedbug protocol. All students were checked for bedbugs and no other grade levels are believed to be in danger of being exposed. 

The following action was taken place in regard to kindergarten:

  • All classes were moved from their normal classrooms for the day and instruction took place in another spot at the school
  • Classroom items were checked by staff for any bedbug activity
  • Kindergarten belongs were kept on campus overnight on Wednesday for treatment
  • Additional resources and information about the health protocol was sent to parents and guardians of kindergarten students

Regular classroom activity will resume on Thursday, Aug. 15.

“We understand that this event disrupted your child(ren)’s school day. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to ensure that our classrooms are safe environments for learning. If you or your child(ren) have any concerns about their health, please contact our front office,” said the letter to parents 

In Columbia County, a fake social media post went around on Wednesday stating bedbugs were found in a Columbia County school. 

“The Columbia County School District is aware of a fake image circulating on social media containing false information about Harlem Middle School. The information in the image is false. Incidents requiring parent notification will be provided directly via email, phone or text, or Remind. Information will also be available on our school or district websites,” the school district said in a statement.
