Biden, Trump sweep area, state primaries

The Associated Press had called the Georgia Presidential Preference Primaries for Joe Biden and Donald Trump by 7:15 p.m. Local results were similar.

With 45 of 46 precincts reporting, Columbia County voters overwhelmingly favored Trump. He had 85% or 10,892 votes, and appeared to carry all precincts. Turnout in the suburban county was at 10.8%.

Former S.C. governor Nikki Haley had 12.5% or 1,601 votes. Florida Gov. Ron Desantis had 1.3% or 167 votes in the suburban county. Both candidates previously suspended their campaigns.

In Richmond County with all precincts reporting, Trump had 4,554 or 84.8% of Republican primary votes. Turnout was 4.8%. Haley had 13% of votes and DeSantis had less than 1%.

In the Democrat-heavy county, Biden had 96.5% of votes or 6,482. Trump only carried one precinct, in the Blythe area.

Biden garnered 73.6% in the 2020 presidential primary in Richmond County and won the general election with 67.9%.

Trump won Columbia in 2016 with 68% of votes after winning 34.6% in the presidential primary. In 2020, he had 66% of votes for president.
