For Augustans ready to get outdoors and get active, a new business located downtown can help.

Bike Bike Baby is owned by Alvin and Christina Watson, who moved to Augusta from New Orleans and have operated their bike tour business for about two months.

“We didn’t want to sell a product. We wanted to sell a service and provide an experience,” Alvin Watson said.

The couple was already interested in health and wellness and wanted to bring something to Augusta that was new and unique to the area.

“We looked at The Garden City and saw the potential of what the downtown area used to be, what it could be, and what it’s going to be,” Watson said.

There are bike tours with various themes. There are tours during the day that weave riders through the James Brown-related murals and theaters where the Godfather of Soul performed years ago. They also offer a downtown history tour and a black history ride.

At night, the sun goes down and the bike lights come up. The night rides are more geared toward enjoying the ambience, nightlife and activities Augusta has to offer.

“These are leisure rides. We have the speaker going and we have the lights going on the bikes,” Watson said. “We run them at night and at the end, there’s a unique event waiting for the riders. There could be a sip & paint at the end, a cookout with live music, or even a private party.”

The Watsons stay in tune with the events going on in Augusta to incorporate them into their night rides.

“The whole idea is to highlight all the things downtown Augusta offers,” Watson said. “Day or night, Augusta has so much to offer and it’s spread out, so we want to highlight the sights and entertainment that’s happening around the city any given night.”

The Watsons went on a night ride in New Orleans, on which Alvin proposed to Christina, and it inspired them to bring that experience to Augusta. Alvin said seeing the sights of Augusta all lit it up is a different way to see the city.

The rides are open to anybody, but you can also reserve a ride just for a private group. Customers can either bring their own bike or rent from Bike Bike Baby for their ride.

“It’s a party,” Watson said. “When we go out at night, all eyes are on us. It’s a whole experience.”
