There will be more explosions Wednesday and Thursday as part of the Furys Ferry Road expansion in Evans.
Crews will use explosives to break up bedrock along the road and residents can expect to hear booms and feel the earth shake if they live near Furys Ferry Road, Oleander Trail and the Hindu temple called the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir. Crews blasted part of the bedrock in April.
“The traffic will need to be stopped for a few minutes within the clear zone for the blast and let go after the shot is checked for proper detonation,” according to a news release from the county.

R. Kyle Titus, the Columbia County engineer, said crews are currently laying utilities along the expanded roadway and need to blast away more ground stone in order to be able to bury the water, sewer and other utility lines.
The blasting is scheduled to happen close to the collapsing private dam in the Jones Creek neighborhood that was built to form Willow Lake. Titus said he has sent the owner of the property three letters expressing concern the dam could collapse and cause damage to Furys Ferry. So far, the owner has not fixed the dam.
